Like many in Central New Jersey, my Trenton roots run deep. This blog will serve to examine the good, the bad, and the promise of the city of Trenton. Well, that mixed with some miscellaneous ramblings along the way.

Wanted: One Library Board of Directors

Taken from the front page of the Trenton Times, Monday, June 18th, 2007:

" Mayor Douglas H. Palmer, who appoints the board, said the issues concerning the board and the library system "are not new to me," and the city has been working on the problems for years. "This is like somebody in 1492 saying they discovered America. There is no other Christopher Columbus here," said Palmer."

If the problems with the board are not new to the Mayor and the city has been "working on them for years," then why aren't they fixed? This leads me to believe that the city has been ignoring the library for years, not trying to fix it. After all, what better way to ensure that the populace stays in the dark and uninformed than to take away the best free source of information they have? Knowledge truly is power, and knowledge is clearly something that the city administration does not want it's residents to have. After all, people who are informed tend to ask questions in order to become more informed. City hall's treatment of Paul Harris is a testament to that. In case you're not familiar, Mr. Harris does this city an invaluable service by taping city council meetings and posting them online. Refer to the links section for a link to his blog where the meetings can be viewed. Mr. Harris was intimidated by a city hall security guard in response to his efforts to simply inform the public of what goes on at a Trenton city council meeting. The city of Trenton has been conducting a war on information (*ahem* crime?) for a long time, rather than actually choosing to deal with problems, and this is just another disservice to the public performed by city hall.
